Timeline

The following shows the steps which lead to the final webpage.

Structuring Raw Data

First, we structured the pure .txt files with HTML and inserted the images. The original order hereby served as guidance.

Creating the Frame

We then decided to create an always-accesible frame for best user interaction.

Searching for Inspiration

We researched typographical and graphic design trends of the last 2000 years.

Designing the Themes

We designed CSS generic stylsheets -- they can be used with any HTML document!

Documenting Every Detail

Gutenberg

Inspired by items before 1500

This theme is inspired by manuscripts, old handwritings, and my grandma's diary.

Victorian Playbill

Inspired by items from the 19th century

Increased industrialization led to an abundance of products to buy, and with automated papermaking, paper became commonly affordable. Advertising boomed like never before. Standing out as much as possible was the new trend.

Go

Art Deco

Inspired by items from 1920 – 1930

Art Deco is the symposium of curvy Art Nouveau and straight Cubism. The aesthetic period is a glamorous celebration of the all man-made and machine-driven future. The inspiration was retrieved from valuables like golds and nature alike.

Tropicalia

Inspired by items from  1950 – 2000

A distinctly Brazilian take on pop art, Tropicalia showed how an art movement could be a counterpoint to the prevailing style of the military dictatorship.

Go

The Face

Inspired by items from the late 20th century

The theme "Baby One More Time" is inspired by the equally named song. The popular track was produced by – back then still cute – Britney Spears in 1998.

Aurora

Inspired by a web for the future

How can we reuse textual contents in an oral society? Aurora reimagines the web for a future in which people refuse to read. The theme celebrates the change as evolvement and offers a colourful solution to the upcoming change.
